ms wigley - film trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fjj_sGlpC9U - The chronicals of narnia .
There are several trailer conventions present within this trailer , firstly I see the institutions name , which is very important as it lets the audience know who has made this film in the first place . Secondly that a narrators voice is being used to illustrate each part of the trailer , and to let the audience get a feel for what the whole film is about . There is also some on screen text which relates to each part of the narrative ' there is hope ' hope of finding something that is extremely important .Until the audience finishes the trailer ... the title of the film is not given until the very end , creating drama and suspence as the audience want to know what this new film is called . The film has come from previous successful films of Narnia . Perhaps this is why people go to watch the film .

How does the trailer use media language (camera, mise-en-scene, editing, sound) to the establish the film's genre?
The trailer comprises of a series of short takes ,followed by long takes which helps in the build up of the narrative . The camera mainly focuses on the protagonists , which highlights how important they are in telling the story . The use of sound has an overall effect .... quite gospel like in order to reflect the genre fantasy , which this trailer depicts across very successfully . Mise en scene - all the protagonist wear quite old fashioned body armour , suggesting that they are about to fight something or someone , the use of archery within one of the scenes can suggest that the film may have aspects of violence built within it , but very subtly has been shown ... therefore a younger target audience is able to watch this fantastic film . A series of fades from one scene to the next have been placed during the editing , which could suggest that the overall scene could come from a young teenagers dream .
Some mythical characters such as the black bore could represent strength and power . That these three kids are being guided along a dangerous task and need some protection .

Who is the target audience and how do you know?
The target audience is very obvious , mainly children aged 7 upwards . I know that this is the target audience because the trailer uses a talking mouse ,lion and bore etc , which children that young can identify with and be drawn towards . Perhaps families could also watch the film . The trailer could attract young teenagers , as they like fantasy themed films.

How effective do you think the trailer is in promoting the film? Why
I think that the trailer is very effective in promoting the film , because it shows the most important elements such as the protagonists .This is important because the audience would want to know who is acting in this film .
